I’ve been going back and forth on switching from blogger to WordPress for a few weeks now. When I started this blog I just went with blogger because it was the easy choice. I use google apps for so many things and blogger is just so … convenient. But the more blogs I visited the more I like the templates and more importantly the comment interface of my friends’ WordPress blogs.
I always thought that WordPress was just too much blogging for me. I’m not sure where I got the idea but I was sure that it was too complicated, too expensive, and that I didn’t know enough about computers or CSS and web design to make it work. Again, I’m not sure where I got that idea.
The other night I decided to start a fake blog on wordpress.com’s free blogging platform to see what I was missing. I liked it. When you get to the meat of it there really isn’t much difference between the two platforms, but it seems to me that with WordPress there is just more. More information, more options (though there really aren’t, they are just more easily accessible in the WordPress interface), and after only one night of putting the blog up more page views driven by search engines. Weird.
Then I thought about whether or not it was worth while to make a switch. I thought about how I’d lose all the readers I’d built up on my blogger blog. Then I remembered that the only readers I have are related to me. If they wanted to read the blog they would just ask for the new address. Once I made that realization it was only a matter of picking a template and importing the posts from the old place. Done and done.
Its not nearly “done”. I imagine it will take weeks for me to finally decide on fonts and photos and all the rest but its done enough that I’ve directed you here. Bear with me while I tinker.
Anyway, welcome to the new place. Hope you like it and hope you keep coming back. If you do drop me a line in the comments to let me know what you think.
